German esports organization Berlin International Gaming (BIG) and PwC Germany have collaborated to release a comprehensive booklet titled “Esports in Germany – In a Global Context.” This over 100-page publication provides an in-depth analysis of the German esports market.

The booklet, published in German, covers various topics including the history of esports, current trends, and future projections. It also delves into issues such as the “esports winter,” branding, production, the media landscape, and the professionalization of the esports industry.

The booklet features contributions from notable figures in the German esports scene, including Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports World Cup Foundation; Anne Banschbach, Director of Esports at Team Vitality; Arwin Fallah Shirazi, Co-Founder and CEO of Shikenso; and Ulrich Schulze, SVP of Game Ecosystems at ESL FACEIT Group.

Germany, a prominent hub for European esports, has hosted numerous international esports events over the years. In 2024, the country will host the Apex ALGS Split 2 Playoffs in Mannheim and the LEC Season Finals in Munich. Earlier this year, it also hosted the inaugural FC Pro World Championship.

PwC Germany has a history of analyzing the esports industry, with previous studies published in 2019 and 2020. BIG, established in 2017, remains a significant player in the German esports scene, with competitive teams in games such as League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, Fortnite, and Tekken.

Daniel Finkler, CEO of BIG, stated: “Our collaboration with PwC aimed to create a central knowledge platform for German esports within a global context. This booklet not only showcases the impressive evolution of esports over the years but also provides valuable insights from key industry figures. We are excited to enhance the visibility and further professionalize the industry in Germany with this publication.”
